El presidente Luis Arce reivindica la defensa histórica de Calama y el mar para Bolivia
Este jueves, el presidente de Bolivia, Luis Arce, rindió homenaje a los héroes bolivianos que defendieron el territorio de Calama hace 144 años y reafirmó la reivindicación del mar para su país.
En sus redes sociales, el mandatario expresó: «Hoy recordamos 144 años de la defensa histórica de Calama por parte de héroes bolivianos que ofrendaron su vida para preservar la integridad de la Patria. Honor y gloria a todos ellos».
Además, Arce enfatizó que Bolivia tiene derecho al mar por razones de verdad, justicia, historia y razón, y lo seguirá haciendo siempre.
Entre los defensores de Calama se encontraba Ladislao Cabrera, héroe boliviano de la Guerra del Pacífico en 1879 y 1884. Junto a Eduardo Abaroa, Cabrera organizó la defensa de ese territorio y logró reunir a 135 voluntarios para resistir al ejército invasor.
Cabrera, nacido en Totora, provincia Carrasco del departamento de Cochabamba en 1830, destacó antes de la guerra como periodista y profesor de literatura. Había llegado a Calama donde ejercía el cargo de forense cuando se produjo la ocupación chilena.
Ante el asalto de Antofagasta, Cabrera y sus compañeros respondieron con valentía y determinación. Al recibir el ultimátum chileno, respondió con altivez: «un boliviano jamás se rinde».
El recuerdo de estos héroes bolivianos es muy importante para la historia y la identidad del país, y la reivindicación del mar es un tema que sigue siendo relevante para Bolivia y su pueblo.
